Submission Guidelines

Scope

The International Conference on Cognitive Aircraft Systems (ICCAS) aims to foster the dissemination and exchange of scientific knowledge on the next generation of civil and military aircraft.

We invite academic researchers and industry professionals to contribute original work that addresses key questions: : how can we develop intelligent aircraft systems that possess greater autonomy, sensitivity to the context, learning capabilities, and the ability to interact naturally with pilots and operators—while reducing their mental and physical workload?

In this context, ICCAS addresses a wide spectrum of theoretical and practical topics related to Neuroergonomics and Human Factors, Human-Machine Interaction, Autonomous vehicles and Automation, and Artificial Intelligence. ICCAS welcomes submissions related, but not limited to several major aspects such as the online monitoring of the flight performance based on behavioral, physiological, and neurological measurements, the design of autonomous (aerial) vehicles, the design of more ecological human-machine interfaces providing intuitive information about the flight or mission status to support decision process, architecture rules that guarantee a high level of operation safety.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  •  Neuroergonomics and human factors
    • Eye tracking, EEG, ECG, fNIRS, other measurement methods
    • Brain computer interfaces
    • Mental states including workload, acute stress, emotion, fatigue…
    • Simulation, virtual reality
    • Training, safety analysis
  • Artificial intelligence
    • Modeling and simulation
    • Fault tolerant algorithms, explanaible algorithms, explanaible decision-making
    • AI-based techniques for human operator monitoring
    • Human-aware task planning and scheduling
    • Cooperative techniques, mixed-initiative interaction/planning
    • Transparent AI, natural human-machine interaction
  • Human-Machine Interaction
    • Sensors and adaptive systems
    • Intelligent assistants, virtual assistants
    • Ecological interface design, augmented reality
    • Innovative warning systems, countermeasures
    • Multi-modal interaction
  • Autonomous vehicles and Automation
    • Single pilot operations, extended crew operations
    • Remote control of automated vehicles, unmanned vehicles
    • Adaptive systems, adaptive automation
    • hybrid manned-unmanned teams
    • Human-machine cooperative/collaborative techniques and frameworks

Submission Types

ICCAS welcomes submissions at all stages of project development, including:
    - Extended Abstracts detailing completed or in-progress research studies, or showcasing real-world implementations of theories or methods
    - (Optional) Full Papers detailing completed or in-progress research studies, or showcasing real-world implementations of theories or methods
    - Abstracts for demonstrators, tools, or prototypes, to be presented during a dedicated session at the conference

Acceptance will be based on the relevance and scientific quality of the written submission, not on the maturity of the work.

Extended Abstract Submission Guidelines

The extended abstract limit is 1000 words. Up to 2 figures or 2 tables (or 1 figure and 1 table) can be added. They do not count towards the word limit. References do not count towards the word limit.

The extended abstract should contain the following sections: Synopsis, Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Disclosures (if any), and References.
You can use the following extended abstracts templates: Word template (.docx)LaTex template (.zip)

Please submit your extended abstract as a PDF (.pdf) document there: SUBMIT HERE [CMT submission link]

NEW Extended Abstract submission deadline: February 22, 2026 (23:55/11:55pm, GMT+2, Toulouse Time)

NOTE: Preference for oral or poster presentation may be specified in the submission system.

Demonstration Abstract Guidelines

The abstract for demonstrators limit is 300 words. Up to 2 figures or 2 tables (or 1 figure and 1 table) can be added. They do not count towards the word limit. References do not count towards the word limit.

The demonstration abstract should contain the following sections: Motivation and Expected Impact, Systems/Tool/Prototype description, Demonstration content.

Authors can use the following demonstration abstract templates: Word template (.docx)LaTex template (.zip)

Please submit your extended abstract as a PDF (.pdf) document there: SUBMIT HERE [CMT submission link]
NEW Demonstration abstracts submission deadline: February 22, 2026 (23:55/11:55pm, GMT+2, Toulouse Time)

NOTE: Authors of demonstration abstracts will be asked to precise in the submission system theirs needs for logistics support. Conference organizers will examine the needs. If nothing is precised, organizers will assume there is no need.

(Optional) Full Paper Submission Guidelines

Authors of the accepted extended abstracts will be invited to submit a full paper (8 pages long maximum including figures, tables, references and annexes). The full paper proposal should be submitted in the same submission system – full paper track.

The templates to be used for full papers are available HERE.

Accepted full papers will be published, constituting the ICCAS 2026 proceedings through a professional editor for indexation.

NOTE: The full paper will follow a specific and new review process. The acceptation or the rejection decision is independent of the acceptation of the extended abstract.

Review process and Submission system

Review process of Extended Abstracts and Demonstration Abstracts

Acceptance will based on a single-blind review process. All submitted extended abstracts and demonstration abstracts will be peer-reviewed by independent referees selected from our scientific committee and other members of the ICCAS community. All accepted extended abstract and demonstration abstracts submissions will be compiled and published as open-access ICCAS 2026 abstracts proceedings.

Review process of (Optional) Full Papers

Acceptance will based on a single-blind review process. All submitted full papers will be peer-reviewed by independent referees selected from our scientific committee and other members of the ICCAS community. All accepted full papers will be compiled and published as open-access ICCAS 2026 proceedings with a professional editor for indexation. The link for the camera-ready version upload will be communicated latter.

CMT Submission system

The Microsoft CMT service was used for managing the peer-reviewing process for this conference. This service was provided for free by Microsoft and they bore all expenses, including costs for Azure cloud services as well as for software development and support.
