Description

Conference Goal

Following the great success of ICCAS Virtual-2021, we are pleased to organize the ICCAS 2022 conference. The aim is to promote the dissemination and exchange of scientific information on the next generation of civil and military aircraft. It provides an excellent forum for combining academic research and industrial works to examine how we can develop intelligent aircraft systems owning more freedom of choice, sensitivity to the context, learning capabilities, and able to interact naturally with the pilots or the operators while saving their mental and physical resources.

Recent trends in this field address several major aspects such as the online monitoring of the flight performances based on behavioral, physiological, and neurological measurements, the design of more ecological human-machine interfaces providing intuitive information about the flight or mission status to support decision process, and architecture rules that guarantee a high level of operation safety. The conference addresses a wide spectrum of theoretical and practical topics related to neuroergonomics and human factors, artificial intelligence or systems engineering. It is mainly focused on aeronautics but contributions from a wide range of domains such as automotive, robots, drones, or artificial agents are welcome.

Please feel free to disseminate the pdf version of the call for participation.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Neuroergonomics and human factors
    • Eye tracking, EEG, fNIRS, other measurement methods
    • Brain computer interfaces
    • Mental workload, acute stress, emotion, fatigue
    • Simulation, virtual reality
    • Training, safety analysis
  • Human-Machine Interaction
    • Sensors and adaptive systems
    • Intelligent assistants, virtual assistants
    • Ecological interface design, augmented reality
    • Innovative warning systems, countermeasures
    • Multimodal interaction
  • Artificial intelligence
    • Modeling and simulation
    • Fault tolerant distributed algorithms
    • Human-aware task scheduling
    • Cooperative techniques, mixed-initiative interaction/planning
    • Transparent AI, natural human-machine interaction
  • Autonomous vehicles and Automation
    • Single pilot operations
    • Remote control of automated vehicles
    • Unmanned vehicles
    • Man-machine cooperative techniques
    • Ethical aspects

Participation

This conference invites research experts and industry practitioners from multidisciplinary backgrounds. It includes invited speakers, and works’ presentation via abstract submissions and selection with an international scientific committee.

Authors are invited to submit an extended abstract up to 5 pages including references and following the conference template. Extended abstracts will be reviewed by the program committee and may be accepted for oral or poster presentation. Online abstracts compilation will be published as open access on OATAO (Open Archive Toulouse Archive Ouverte).

Please note that extended abstract submission is optional: academic, industrial, and students participants can attend the conference with a simple registration.

Keynotes speakers

Jean-François Bonnefon is a Research Director at the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. He is affiliated to the Toulouse School of Economics, the Toulouse School of Management, and the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse, and occupies the chair of Moral AI at the Artificial and Natural Intelligence Toulouse Institute. He is the author of 100+ scientific publications, including influential articles in outlets such as Nature and Science. He conducts research on decisions which have a moral component, especially in the context of machine ethics and human-AI cooperation. He currently serves as the president of the European Commission expert group on the ethics of driverless mobility.

Prof. Dr. Axel Schulte is university professor of Aircraft Dynamics and Flight Guidance at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich (UBM) since 2002. He is co-founder of the Military Aviation Research Center (MARC) at UBM and the of spin-off start-up company HAT.tec (Human-Autonomy Teaming Technologies). In 2010 Prof. Schulte was visiting professor at the Humans and Automation Lab of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). His research is in cognitive and cooperative cockpit assistant systems, UAV-automation, and Human-Autonomy Teaming in military flight missions. Prof. Schulte was a systems engineer in aviation industry for seven years, and technical officer of the German Air Force for ten years. His academic background is in Aerospace Engineering. He gained his Doctor-degree in 1996 and his Diploma-degree in 1990.
